To utilize these files - the end-user must configure their browser for the required plug-in application. Below are a few common examples: Crescendo:- LiveUpdate - .mid, .mp3, etc. Flash/Shockwave:- Macromedia - .swf, .fla, etc. QuickTime:- Apple - .qt Real Audio:- Real Networks- .rm, .ram, etc. Windows Media Player:- Microsoft - .mp3, .avi, .wma, etc. It is important to remember that both the plug-in interface and the browser reside on the "Application Layer" of the OSI model while the files themselves fall within the "Presentation" Layer.
